A Few of the Barbados events that you can enjoy when staying at the Luxury Barbados Crossbow Villa

Kite Flying
It's a tradition of people in the Caribbean around Easter and Spring time to make a big deal of kite flying. Some locals say this is because the kites signify the risen Christ. In Guyana the strong sea breezes coming from the sea wall in Georgetown aid in making the national event highly popular whatever the reason.

The National contest usually takes place on Easter Monday in Barbados and also Jamaica too! Springtime is the most favoured time of year when weather conditions are very suitable. Mass kite flying one of the most popular Barbados events.

From Crossbow Villa it is quite common to see kites flying high in the blue sky above you at this time of year

Horseracing

Another of the exciting and fun Barbados events to go on as a day out from Crossbow Villa is an afternoon at the Garrison Savannah races. 'The Sport of Kings' as horse racing is popularly known as is a great day out for all the family who can enjoy a picnic whilst watching the parades. Lots of tasty street food is also available from on site vendors. Place your bet and enjoy socialising with the other race goers!

Most of the year round the racing season is on in Barbados where creoles and thoroughbred horses race for punters hoping to win a nice amount of prize money.

One of the main horse riding Barbados events is the Sandy Lane Gold Cup (known formerly as the Cockspur Gold Cup). Many entrants and jockeys from across the Caribbean, Canada and the United Kingdom attend this popular Barbados event.

Crop Season Festival
One of the most colourful Barbados events by far is the Crop Over Festival which takes place over 5 weeks in July. The roots of the festival date as far back as the 1780's, about the time that sugar was being produced by Barbados who were the largest producers. The name 'Crop Over' literally stems from the end of a very successful season and sugar cane harvest. At this time the islanders put on a massive celebration that featured singing and dancing with many food & drink laden street parties.

The festival died out slowly as the sugar industry declined but was brought back to life again in 1974. The festival today is a colourful extravaganza including new elements of Bajan culture that people attracts people from across the world.
