Barbados Crop Over Festival

Barbados Crop Over Festival is held over a couple of months in summer and is a celebration of the end of the years sugar cane season. The Crop Over Festival is perhaps the most famous of all Barbados events and is held in the streets of Bridgetown. Back in the day the festival first started in the 1780's when the worlds largest sugar producer was Barbados.
The Crop Over Festival is the most colourful spectacle you will see as everyone taking part wears bright outfits in all sorts of designs, colours and patterns before performing a musical parade of dancing and regalia through the streets of the capital along side beautifully decorated carts. The festival opens with the crowning of the Crop Over festival King & Queen, who are the most active crop cutters of the sugar cane growing season.
